Talk about a Wild Adventure Traverse! I will be hiking the Appalachian Mountains solo in Newfoundland from Port aux Basques all the way up until Portland Creek following the IATNL. Some call me crazy, some are jealous and some are simply super excited for me. With over 500 kms of hiking trails, T’Railway, wilderness, logging roads, streams and rivers and unknown terrain it’s a challenge accepted.
The original Appalachian Trail (AT) runs from Georgia in the US all the way North to Maine. Then was created the International Appalachian Trail (IAT) that links the AT in the US and crosses into New Brunswick and Quebec (Sentier International des Appalaches (SIA)) before hopping into Newfoundland. Here we call it “International Appalachian Trail Newfoundland & Labrador” (IATNL). All these trails make up about 4000 kilometers.
I have been doing a lot of meticulous planning over the last few months. From meal planning to route planning it’s all been real exciting. Without all this work and the help of many people this would not have been possible. Thanks to my lovely partner Cory Bertrand and my friends Katie Broadhurst, Paul Wylezol, Kevin Noseworthy and Alice Will.
Many people have asked me if I was afraid of going alone way out in the wilderness. My answer to them is:”I’m more afraid of walking alone in a big city at night and have much higher chances of dying while driving my car. Our daily lives have way more risks. And quite frankly black bears tend to be more afraid of us.”.
The Wild Adventure Traverse starts today Friday May 20th in Grand Bay West. My partner Cory will be with me for the first 4 days until I keep progressing solo. We’ll start off with the Grand Codroy Way. I won’t be posting as often due to a lack of reception, however I’ll do my best to keep you all posted on my location and stories will follow whenever I have the opportunity.
Live Wildly Intrepid!
Carpe Diem
Alex

Good luck Anne-Alex! You are an adventurous lady with a curious and life living spirit. You are going to have so much fun and I cannot wait to see what adventures you will have. I am a little jealous and at the same time find you brave! Give yourself a pat on the back for all the hardwork and a huge smile for the beautiful scenery and wildlife to come. I really hope to see you again one day! Hugs, Emma Kennedy TTA for ever!
