CEDAR KEY on the Gulf of Mexico & Surfing Hanna Park

Cedar Key, Florida, Wildly Intrepid

In this week’s video we travel from coast to coast in Florida but we had to leave our sailboat behind.

A road trip leads us to the Gulf of Mexico where we explore Cedar Key, a quaint little fisherman’s village of only 800 full-time residents. It was both our first time exploring this coast of Florida. Driving went a little faster than if we had sailed over. It was a short 2hour drive from Jacksonville to Cedar Key. Old buildings on stilts immediately transported us in a different time while overlooking the calm gulf. This was an unusual labor Day weekend with very few tourists around. On the other hand it also made it easy for us to get tables in restaurants. With a warm September day we truly enjoyed the patio hopping along with cold beers and exquisite seafood. We even found all sorts of interesting art before enjoying the last rays of sun.

Despite being close to flying out we even make it out for some fun surfing at Hanna Park on the Atlantic side. With small beach breaks its the perfect excuse to fall off a few times and enjoy the Florida surf without the crowds. Located in Jacksonville it’s a nice escape from the city. Hanna Park boast lush forest, quiet beaches, wetlands and many walking trail. It’s the perfect location for a half or full day adventure. High in the trees we spot an owl, or did he spot us first with its big eyes.

Thank you! 🙏
