Mount Warning is a mountain located in Australia in the region of the Northern Rivers in New South Wales. It is part of the Tweed range, an old volcanic area and culminates at 1156 meters. It is also known as mount “Wollumbin” by the indigenous. Interestingly it is located in the Easternmost point of Australia and is the highest peak which makes it the first location of mainland Australia to see sunrise.
We woke up early in the middle of the night. Darkness surrounded me as I stepped out of the tent while rubbing my eyes. Big stretch and yawn and I quickly remembered why I was getting up so early. We grabbed some breakfast and brought some snacks and off we went.
The jungle of Mount Warning felt enchanted with all the noises and creatures crawling around. Additionally a few more hikers were doing the same as us. Thus you could see little white lights moving up in a line It was magical and the trees seemed gigantic. As we got closer to the summit we started seeing faint shapes of mountains and eventually clouds in the valleys. Eventually the nice path led us to a steeper section. Chains and ropes made the last bit of climbing much easier. Luckily we made it to the summit of Mount Warning just in time.
Emerging from the ocean was a ball of fire. The sun’s warmth was welcomed. On the opposite side of Mount Warning you could see its shadow drawing a pyramid on the surrounding landscape. We sat there mesmerized by the landscape while eating some tasty breakfast sandwich. Meanwhile there was a group celebrating a 30th birthday all dressed up.
Hiking down Mount Warning felt like a different trail. Earlier I could only see a few feet in front of me but now the jungle revealed itself. My two monkeys Cory and Andrew climbed up a few fig trees while I took pictures of the surrounding landscape. What an adventure.
