Cedar Cove hiking trail description
Distance: 1.8km linear trail (3.6km roundtrip)
At the first fork head left to reach Cedar Cove beach. Alternatively you could go either way if you wanted to hike the Little Port Head trail (3km) which gains 250m of elevation with the assistance of ropes. However, there is very little elevation gain or loss involved with the Cedar Cove hiking trail. Tunnels of thick black spruce lead you through the typical Newfoundland style of coastal forest. It will eventually open up to views of the bogs and the surrounding Murray mountains. Keep following the old buoys and fishing nets that decorate the trail. Eventually a trail will appear on the right which would lead to the top of Little Port Head trail, just keep going straight. At this point in the summer time would be found hundreds of roses combining into an incredible smell.
Cedar Cove hiking trail will end close to a pond onto a flat barren area. From there wander towards the ocean and take in the dramatic landscape. Cedar cove is nestled between cliffs and offers great views of the coastline. Also it is a fantastic location to have a picnic on the rocky beach. On the other hand it can be windy at times which makes it a perfect location to fly a kite.
