Fall is one of those season that slowly creeps in and before you know it the landscape has drastically changed. Trees harbor bright shades of yellow, orange and red as if in flames. The most astonishing times are by far sunset and sunrise as they truly enhance the magical colours. However, the best thing about the fall season is its serenity. Tourists are sparse and most people can only afford strolls though the woods on weekends leaving weekdays peaceful. Crisp air also makes it enjoyable for fall hiking as one doesn’t sweat profusely anymore.
Get out there and enjoy the fall hiking and its colours while it is here as it will quickly fade away. On the other hand if you have lived in the same area for an extended period of time you may be slightly too familiar with your surroundings and looking for something new.
New landscapes and locations have that ” wow” factor. Which is why going off the beaten path can become really rewarding. Hunting made me rediscover the joys of hiking and exploring. It brings one to new areas often overlooked. Just the other week I stumbled upon series of waterfalls roaring through a deep canyon behind Marble Mountain. But you may want to consider waterproof boots with so many bogs in Newfoundland.
I would highly recommend to anyone doing this type of fall hiking to wear bright colours as it is hunting season. Furthermore, make sure you have a map and compass or GPS in order to not get lost. No trails means freedom, but remember to also be cautious.
Another lovely aspect to this time of the year is its bountiful berries and apples. Partridge berries and blueberries make delicious treats for your return to a warm home. Enjoy the gifts of mother nature and explore your own backyard.
Now get your orange hats and rediscover hiking in the Fall.
